OUR ROLE
The design and construction of a new reception centre, an independent lift shaft and passenger lift installation, special needs WCs, 1st floor extension to classrooms, structural alterations and improvements to existing buildings.
THE PROJECT
Great care was taken in the design and construction to ensure that the new building coordinated entirely with the architectural features of the existing building. This was achieved with careful brick matching, banding details, corresponding window fenestration, not to mention excellent craftsmanship. At the same time the brief was to produce light and modern accommodation internally.
In order to achieve the span for a large open plan reception area, it was necessary to incorporate large steel beams within the roof structure. It was also decided to design and construct the new building with a future 1st floor extension in mind.
Part of the new building was raised two floors to provide additional office space at first floor level together with a new state of the art passenger lift installation.
Whilst some of the major construction works were carried out during the school holidays, a large percentage of the scheme was completed during term time. This required careful planning and innovative site processes to ensure the safety, welfare and comfort of pupils, staff and visitors.
Although this was not a huge project, it is a scheme we are particularly proud of, since it has been so well received by everyone concerned.
