OUR ROLE

To design & construct a new young mothers residential unit, incorporating a modern reception, crèche, play area and staff accommodation.

THE PROJECT

Working within the existing multi storey building, the works involved infilling the open under croft area, as well as a large extension to the front of the building. The new structure was designed and constructed, using specially selected materials to match the existing building.

Cavity masonry walls were then formed around the perimeter of the existing building and laid on existing and new foundations. The extended area was constructed to the same specification on new piled and beam foundations.

A pre-cast beam and block floor was installed throughout the new and existing areas and finished with a composite timber/insulation board. The existing under croft area was subdivided into eight residential units - all with en suite bathroom and staff facilities. To serve the new mechanical and electrical installations, a new purpose built plant and boiler room was created in the existing basement area.

A striking feature of the new extension was the curved shape of the aluminium roof. The new extension accommodated the fully fitted reception area, crèche, offices and ‘open’ play area – the latter with high tech safety flooring.

THE RESULT

A first class facility is born, combining innovative design with a high specification finish.
